Heaton Norris Community, Decide How Money is Spent!

Your three Local Councillors joined over 100 residents to attend a ‘You Say, We Pay’ event on March 20th at The Salvation Army on Short St to help decide how £27,500 should be spent to best improve their community. The event was organised by the Safer Stockport Partnership. Community groups and organisations working in Heaton Norris and Lancashire Hill were invited to bid for part of the funding to help pay for a project that would benefit community safety or improve local health. About 30 groups and organisations delivered three-minute presentations on what they wanted to use the money for. Through an innovative interactive voting system, residents decided which projects they thought would benefit their community the most and how much funding they should receive. The Belmont Area Action Group was awarded £3,000 to add to the money to improve the Grafton St Play Area. Whitehill Allotments Society was awarded £1,900 and a group on Cromwell and Ellen St were awarded over £600. Cllr Tom Grundy said” it was a great day and I commend everyone one who took part, It was wonderful to see that so many people care about the community they live in” We have asked that South Reddish be considered for a similar event.
